Welcome, Prospective Exchange Students
This page is for students in our master's program "Scientific Computing" interested in the exchange with our partners in the 4EU+ Master AI Network — Sorbonne University (Paris, France), Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), the University of Milan (Milan, Italy) and Pantheon-Assas (Paris, France).
Are you a student from one of our partner universities looking to come to Heidelberg? Then this page is not for you — please see our Incoming Students page instead.
Why Apply for the Exchange?
Students selected for the network exchange have the opportunity to spend their third term at another well-known European university — Sorbonne University (Paris), Charles University (Prague), the University of Milan or Pantheon-Assas (Paris).
Study Abroad
Take advantage of the host university's course offerings and broaden your academic and cultural experience in one of Europe's leading research environments.
Master Thesis Option
Optionally, students can use this term to find a master's thesis topic with a supervisor at the host university, completing the thesis under joint supervision between home and host university. Students may extend their stay by a few weeks to accommodate this.
Choosing Your Host University
Beyond the shared foundation from year one in Heidelberg, each partner university brings its own distinctive profile to the master's program. When choosing a host, students should weigh both the specific courses on offer and how well the partner's overall profile fits their interests and goals.
Detailed profiles for each partner are available on their dedicated pages:
- Sorbonne University (Paris) — (link to be added)
- Charles University (Prague) — (link to be added)
- University of Milan (Milan)
- Pantheon-Assas (Paris)
Course Selection Requirements
Courses taken at the host university must comply with the bylaws of our master's program "Scientific Computing." Since our partner universities mainly offer courses in mathematics and computer science, students are strongly advised to complete their mathematics seminar, computer science practical, and all application-area modules already in year one, before departing for the exchange.
Depending on availability, application-area courses may also be completed at the host university — but this must be confirmed in advance by the relevant coordinator.
Contacts
Questions about the program and exchange can be directed to Prof. Robert Scheichl (Head of the Examination Board) and Dr. Michael Winckler (Study Counsellor).
