Welcome, Incoming Exchange Students

This page is for incoming students of the 4EU+ Master AI Network exchange — specifically students from Sorbonne University (Paris), Charles University (Prague), the University of Milan (MIlan) and Pantheon-Assas (Paris) applying to spend a term at Heidelberg.

Are you already enrolled in the Heidelberg master's program "Scientific Computing"? Then this page is not for you — please see our Outgoing Students page instead.

Why Heidelberg?

Incoming exchange students are registered in the master's program Scientific Computing at Heidelberg University, which combines applied mathematics and computer science with a strong emphasis on practical application.

Mathematical Modelling

Students can choose advanced courses in mathematical modelling and numerical methods, with the chance to apply these techniques directly to real-world problems.

Computer Science & AI

For students favoring computer science, Heidelberg offers a wide range of courses in artificial intelligence and advanced programming, alongside opportunities to test AI methods in applied settings.

Application Areas

Courses and practicals span both classic scientific-computing fields — physics, astronomy, chemistry, life sciences — and emerging areas such as economics, social sciences, and computational linguistics.

Program Information

For a general overview of the master's program, see our Program Overview page. The full module handbook is available under List of Modules.

Students with interests in mathematics foundation courses may select one bachelor-level "import" mathematics course. Eligible courses are listed on our White & Black List page and are fully recognized as master courses in this program.

In coordination with their home university, students may freely select courses from our program to complement their studies and fulfill their home program's requirements. Together with their home coordinator, students should compile a list of intended courses for their learning agreement.

Contacts

Questions about the program and exchange can be directed to Prof. Robert Scheichl (Head of the Examination Board) and Dr. Michael Winckler (Study Counsellor).
